I visited the Riccarton Christmas Market (which is open from 4-7pm all this week) at Riccarton House today – it’s a sort of mini-version of their very popular Farmers’ Market on Saturday mornings (9am-12 noon), and Sunday Artisan Market (10am-2pm). I was looking for something different for a gift for a friend’s birthday on Saturday, and managed to find some lovely Stewart Island Smoked Salmon, plus Stewart Island Aoli and Vinaigrette sauces, so that’ll make a nice little package for the recipient. I also purchased a bottle of Riesling Grape Juice pour moi, so they did well out of me 🙂
I got there not long after the market opened at 4pm, so there weren’t too many people at that stage, making it easy to get a good look at what was on offer, and the live music and lovely surroundings really add to the atmosphere. Riccarton House itself is still not open to the public following the earthquakes three years ago, and you’ll see the scaffolding up on one of the smaller buildings in one of the photos below. It’s lovely to think that this slice of Christchurch history won’t be lost as so many others have been due to earthquake damage – it really is a beautiful house, and set in Deans Bush as it is, it’s well worth a visit.
Other than that the day was pretty quiet, just tidying up bits and pieces before I finish work tomorrow for a two-week Christmas break – yippee!
