Oh, my – I’ve just realised that it’s exactly one year today since I started this blog and did my first posting! 115 posts in 365 days = one post every 3.17 days – only we both know it hasn’t been as steady as that: just look at the last month, when I didn’t post anything! Anyway, here are a couple of Zentangles and some recent photos to celebrate the occasion 🙂
Isn’t it amazing how a piece of music can transport you back in time … the other day at work, someone in the library put on Supertramp in the back room where we are, and suddenly I was 29 years old again! 🙂
Hearing this song in particular – Take the Long Way Home – took me back to the many times in the early ’80s when I’d load up my young son, Simon, in his car seat in the back of the car, and we’d take off for the day, with Supertramp to accompany us over many a mile. I’d been introduced to their music by a friend from Zimbabwe (thanks, Colin), and totally fell in love with their tight-knit harmonies and great tunes. I’d ask Simon what he’d like to listen to and he’d shout, “Long Way Home!” with a big smile on his face, so I’d plug in the cassette and off we’d go, the two of us singing our hearts out as we headed off for Te Anau, or Wyndham, or Queenstown, or just wherever the fancy took us. I like to think that his love of music came from those early years, but I suspect that the genes of both his parents probably have far more to do with it – Bryan and I both loved music, both sang, both performed in musical theatre, both enjoyed the goose bumps as we listened to Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma …
Ah, yes, music can be a wonderful time machine!
(Here’s an early photo of his lordship in his car seat, messily enjoying a chocolate biscuit – he was only just over a year old when this was taken, so not quite able to articulate his favourite choice of song, but definitely able to enjoy it!)
That’s what I’ve been of late. You could be forgiven for thinking I’ve disappeared into a black hole, been abducted by aliens, or fallen off my perch. Nah. Just life, taking over, throwing me off track, chewing me up and spitting me out and – horror of horrors – even cutting into my Zentangling time (gasp!) 🙂
But I’m fighting my way back, so look out, I’ll be coming your way again real soon!
In the meantime, here’s a Zentagle which I did about a month ago … which makes me realise it’s been that long since I posted anything: VERY delinquent!
